FAQs

Is telehealth PT as effective as in-person?

For most cases of low back pain, PT done from home is just as effective as in-person care.

That's because, unlike many other body regions, the low back does not require a hands-on exam to be evaluated accurately.

Treatment is similar. The things that drive lasting improvement — strength training, mobility, correcting movement patterns, and managing load — can all be done independently and coached effectively through telehealth.

Hands-on interventions like massage, dry needling, and manipulation can provide short-term symptom relief, but they do not drive lasting change. And when quick symptom relief is needed, similar strategies can often be performed on your own at home.

Telehealth PT can also make long-term progress easier to maintain, since your rehab plan is built around the equipment you already have instead of relying on clinic-specific setups.

All that being said, some conditions (such as people who are at risk of falling) are better managed in-person. If I ever see something that requires in-person care, I’ll tell you immediately and help you navigate next steps.

What equipment do I need?

No equipment is required for either the telehealth evaluation or your ongoing rehab plan.

If certain equipment would be helpful, I’ll show you what to use and how to make the most of what you already have access to, whether you're rehabbing at home or in the gym.

How much does Function Fix PT cost?

Pricing depends on the complexity of your condition and the estimated length of care, which we determine during your telehealth evaluation.

That said, over a full course of care, Function Fix PT is often 75% less expensive than cash-based in-person PT.

Comparing Function Fix PT to insurance-based PT is less straightforward because co-pays and deductibles vary significantly, but it is still often 25-50% less expensive overall (and as a bonus, doesn't require dealing with insurance companies!).

There are two reasons Function Fix PT is more cost-effective than in-person:

1. No clinic overhead

Because care is delivered remotely, there are no facility costs built into your treatment.

2. Rehab is done independently

Appointments are focused on diagnosis and program adjustments — not exercise supervision. As a result, most cases are resolved in just 2–4 live video appointments, instead of the 10–15 visits often scheduled in traditional clinics.

Function Fix is also pay-as-you-go, so you’re never locked into large treatment packages or long-term commitments.

Do you take insurance?

Function Fix operates as a direct-pay practice and does not bill insurance.

Despite that, most patients still pay less overall with Function Fix than they would with in-person insurance-based PT (see above FAQ for details).

Many patients also choose to use HSA or FSA funds for payment. I can provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement, and I’m happy to review your options based on your specific insurance plan during your telehealth evaluation.

What days & times are appointments available?

Telehealth evaluations and follow-up appointments are available 7 days a week from 5am–11pm EST.

Over a course of care, most people only need 2–4 live video appointments. That’s because appointments are focused on diagnosis and program adjustments rather than exercise supervision.

The result: Expert care without having to miss work or time with family.
