What To Expect

1. Identify Your Sciatica Type

We'll discuss your symptoms and perform a movement assessment to determine which of the 3 types of sciatica you have.

2. Rapid Relief

Next, we'll test which self-treatment technique is the best for you. Roughly 85% of patients experience a meaningful reduction in their sciatica symptoms during our initial appointment.

3. Fix The Root Cause

Finally, we'll build a custom plan to fully resolve your sciatica and prevent flare-ups. You'll follow a simple at-home exercise routine and meet with me virtually once or twice per week for live guidance (with 24/7 access to me between appointments if questions arise).

What's Your Sciatica Type?

During your initial appointment we will identify which of the 3 types of sciatica you have, how to get quick relief, and how to fix the root cause.

Disc Bulge / Herniation

Spinal discs can bulge or herniate, compressing the sciatic nerve as it exits the spine.

Treatment starts by mobilizing the spine in the correct direction to move the disc material back toward the center, thus reducing pressure on the nerve.

Once symptoms improve, we prevent future flare-ups by fixing the underlying strength and movement imbalances that led to the original bulge/herniation.

Facet Joint Inflammation

Facet joints are where two spine bones meet. These joints can become inflamed and enlarged, irritating the nearby sciatic nerve.

Unlike a disc herniation, this cause of sciatica is often not found on an MRI.

Treatment starts by mobilizing the spine in the correct direction to flush inflammation out of the joint, thus reducing pressure on the nerve.

Once symptoms improve, we prevent future flare-ups by fixing the underlying strength and movement imbalances that led to the original inflammation.

Piriformis Syndrome

The piriformis muscle can compress the sciatic nerve as it passes through the muscle belly.

Note: If you also have low back pain, your sciatica is most likely not piriformis syndrome.

Treatment starts by improving sciatic nerve mobility so the nerve can glide through the piriformis with less irritation.

Once symptoms improve, we prevent future flare-ups by fixing the underlying strength and movement imbalances that led to the original compression.

Jennifer's Story: No More Radiating Back Pain

While Function Fix now focuses exclusively on patients 65 and older, Jennifer is a fantastic example of just how resilient we can make your spine with virtual PT.

Jennifer had low back pain radiating into her leg for over 4 years despite trying multiple forms of treatment.

Here were her results:

  • 75% improvement in pain in 10 days with 100% pain-relief in 2 months
  • Rehab done entirely from home

"My back has honestly felt fantastic. I have not felt this great in over 4 years."

- Jennifer

FAQs

Can You Diagnose My Sciatica Without Seeing Me In-Person?

Yes. For the vast majority of people, a detailed history and movement assessment are all that's needed to accurately identify the cause of sciatica.

As an Army Physical Therapist providing virtual PT to deployed Soldiers, I've spent years diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries without relying on a hands-on exam.

Can You Treat My Sciatica Without Seeing Me In-Person?

Yes. In fact, many of my patients report better results with virtual care than they've ever experienced in a traditional in-person clinic.

That’s because virtual care gives you more personalized attention, support between appointments, and the flexibility to get the help you need when you need it.

With Function Fix, you get:

βœ“ Flexible Appointments: Available 7 days a week and as late as 10:30 PM EST to fit your schedule.

βœ“ 24/7 Direct Access: Message me anytime with questions, concerns, or updates instead of waiting until your next appointment.

βœ“ Immediate Relief + Lasting Results: I’ll teach you self-mobilization techniques you can use for fast, on-demand pain relief, along with mobility and strengthening exercises designed to address the underlying cause and keep your pain from coming back.

How Quickly Will I See Results?

Roughly 85% of patients experience a meaningful reduction in their sciatica symptoms during their initial appointment.

The timeline for full recovery depends on your personal history and severity of your condition. Some patients are completely pain-free within days, while others with more complex cases take a few months.

The most common progression is a ~50% reduction in pain within the first 1–2 weeks, with full symptom resolution within 6–8 weeks.

During your initial appointment, I’ll give you a realistic timeline for how long your sciatica will likely take to resolve based on your specific situation.

What Equipment Do I Need?

No equipment is required.

You can join the video call with your phone or laptop. We'll use a HIPAA-compliant telehealth software that doesn't require any downloads and is just as easy to use as FaceTime.

Cost / Medicare Eligibility

For the vast majority of my patients, care is 100% covered with $0 out-of-pocket costs.

➀ If you have Original Medicare (the "Red, White, and Blue" card) plus a supplemental plan, your appointments and 24/7 support are fully covered once your standard annual deductible is met.

➀ If you don't have a supplemental plan, you may have a small co-pay for appointments (approximately $20), which we can review during your initial appointment or discuss over the phone beforehand.

Please Note: I work exclusively with Original Medicare Part B and do not accept Medicare Advantage plans.

Do I Need a PT Referral?

No. You do not need to visit a doctor or get a referral before booking your initial appointment. After our first session, I will handle the administrative work of sending your customized Plan of Care directly to your primary doctor for their digital signature.
